What Is Reiki – and How Does It Help Us Heal?

 

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a natural and safe method of energy healing, which originates from Japan. The word itself is made up of two Japanese words: “Rei” meaning Spirit wisdom or the Higher Power and “Ki” meaning Life Force Energy. Reiki is a very gentle, yet powerful form of restoring and replenishing the body, and heals us from the inside out. In Western medicine, we often treat the physical body and the symptoms, however with Reiki we learn to see the mind, body and spirit as one, which allows for healing on a deeper level. 

 
 

Reiki heals by flowing gently through the affected parts of our energy field and charging us with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of our energy field in and around the physical body – where our negative thoughts and feelings may be attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away, removing any blockages and energy stagnation that may have been building up within us. As it works its way through the energy field, Reiki clears and heals our energy pathways – allowing our energy to flow in a healthy and natural way. This means we are feeling good, healthy and functioning at our very best.

Are There Any Side Effects To Reiki? 

None at all! Reiki is non-invasive and a completely safe practice. 

It is worth noting that the practitioner may touch specific parts of your body to encourage the energy flow, so for those with past trauma, this could be triggering or uncomfortable. This will always be discussed before the session begins, and there is a form of ‘hands off’ Reiki which can be requested if you were to feel uncomfortable. 

By moving through blocks and layers of stagnant energy, you can expect to feel everything from heat building in the body, to seeing vivid colours and even an emotional release. Every experience is completely unique, but always safe.

How Often Should You Have Reiki? 

There is really no right or wrong with it being such a safe and natural practice! If you are looking to heal a specific injury or mental health issue such as anxiety, I’d advise booking in a block of up to 6 sessions – spaced every 10-14 days. If you’re looking for more of a general energy check up, once a month would really enhance your overall wellness.
